Our Story

You guys. Even though I am a family and senior photography, I am a sucker for a good love story. Like, no joke, historical romance is one of my favorite things to read. So cheesey, I know. It's my favorite part of reading all my friend's wedding and engagement blogs. I love to know how people met! I thought I would share how Danny and I got together.

Danny and I met just after I'd come home from spring term from BYU-I. (If you remember, I moved to Utah after senior year, and since I didn't know anyone here, I would go up to Salt Lake to hang out with my BFF from Oregon who was out here going to school)  I came home on a Thursday and on that Friday I was partying it up with my best friend all over the place. This just so happened to be Pioneer Day Weekend.

Just to set the scene; Saturday night to Sunday morning we had camped out under the stars on some ledge at Big cottonwood canyon and left around 8 so we could get ready for church which was at one o'clock. My friend was in the church choir [for some crazy reason since she's totally tone deaf] She made me sing with her up on the stand with the rest of the choir since she didn't want me sitting by myself. Danny was in her ward and saw me there. That night Amanda [my best friend] and her roommates and I invited everyone we saw in the hallways at church to go camping out on the streets for the pioneer day parade. Danny got invited to go. He didn't know anyone because he'd been outta town and they rearranged the ward boundaries. Danny invited another girl to go with him, but she couldn't make it so he went alone. He got there and we were all playing card games and he sat right down in our little circle and we started playing. He claims that I "was the best looking girl there" which is why he sat next to us. He started talking to Amanda and I and because Danny is a naturally friendly person, we hit it off. I thought Amanda knew him since they were in the same ward - turns out, she didn't. While we were playing card games, I had this random, not from me, thought of, "He's going to make a good husband for someone someday." Honestly it kinda freaked me out! Especially since I was dating someone at the time.

At midnight since it was technically "Monday" we walked to burger king to get ice cream. Danny couldn't stay very long after that because he had work the next day, but we started facebooking. I found out Amanda was into him and since I had a boyfriend, I slowly started to back off and stopped asking questions in our messages and let the conversation die.

Then, around October I was getting things ready for Rexburg, like trying to find a place to live and such. When I got this really strong feeling that I needed to stay in Utah. I had no idea why. At this point I have ended things with my ex and am living the single life. So I asked my dad for a blessing. He gave me one and in it, it said that I was right with my feelings that I should stay here in Utah and try to go to school in provo/orem. Which was weird cause I hadn't told my parents yet. But I had my answer.

So along comes Halloween and Amanda invites me to this big dance at the institute building at the U. We go as pirates and dance and randomly we run into Danny! Neither of us went to the U so it was the most fluke meet up ever. Afterwards we all went out for ice cream and fries at Dee's. While we were talking Danny told us that he was moving out of SLC down to Provo. He had just been offered a job as a pharmacist down there and this was his last hurrah in SLC.  Since I was in Sandy I said, "We'll just have to party at my house, it's halfway for everyone" - subtly trying to hint at the underlying issue of me being available. Danny jumped on board with that right away and I went home the next morning and found a fb message waiting for me from him.

After a while of messaging back and forth he says that since he's been outta school and moved down to Provo he doesn't know anyone and he's behind on movies and wanted to know if I'd be his "movie buddy." I said "of course! I love movies, sounds like fun!" Everyone tried to tell me that he was asking me out, but I was so smart and said that we were just movie buddies, duh. Oh Whitney *face palm.

our first date

The first movie we went to was the Muppets, then he asked me out on what I call the first "real" date. (hiking up City Creek to decorate a random pine tree for Christmas with a picnic dinner.) That night I had a sleepover with my two best friends and we were all talking about boys. I asked Amanda if she'd be ok with me going after a guy she used to like. She said [her exact words] "Danny's so great, you can just marry him!" I giggled and said "ok."
