Austin + Jenna: A Proposal | Utah Engagement Photographer

Getting engaged is one of the pivotal moments in your life. It's from there that you start shaping the direction your life is headed. My little brother, and closest to me in age had been dating his girlfriend, Jenna, pretty seriously when he came and asked for help in planning the proposal! I was so excited and so proud of my brother! (Especially since he had the thought to have it documented!) Jenna's oldest sister was also helping and between the three of us, we were able to capture a pretty magical evening.

We started by finding a spot up Little Cottonwood Canyon, just off of the Temple Quarry trail. It was the perfect little cove. Austin had spent hours hand lettering the signs that would lead Jenna to the "spot." We were going for a whimsical, woodland feel to it, and Austin nailed it! Jamie, Jenna's sister, bought fairy lights off of Amazon and I drug out all of my lanterns and candles. Once at the spot, Austin set up all the posts and I helped create the arch with the surrounding driftwood and greenery. It all came together perfectly!

While we waited in the bushes I was giddy with excitement! I was about to gain another sister and my cute brother was about to gain a wife! So exciting! Just your friendly PSA reminder, if you are hiking and you see a proposal unfolding right in front of you, DO NOT THINK YOU CAN TRY TO WALK THROUGH IT SNEAKILY! Just as Austin was about to go down on one knee, a hiker approached the cove. I could see the look on his face as he stood there, contemplating whether or not he could squeeze past us with out us noticing. Fat chance buddy! I knew he was already in the shot of the camera we had set up to video, and I was doing everything in my power to crop him out of my frame. I made eye contact and tried to speak through my gaze saying, "DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT, SIR! I AM SPEAKING TO YOU THROUGH MY EYES! SERIOUSLY DO NOT TRY AND SNEAK BY! WE CAN SEE YOU!" Luckily, after a few more minutes of awkwardly watching and glancing past us, he left.

Luckily Austin and Jenna didn't notice, I was able to crop him out and Jaime had them redo the last bit of the proposal for the video she was filming. phew. but still, thinking about it just makes me get so irritated all over again! Anyways. Without further ado, here is the story of how Austin asked, and Jenna said yes.

Don't forget, don't be like this guy.
