I get asked frequently what my favorite thing to photograph is. Since I decided to specialize in Utah family and senior photography, my response usually resembled a pretty cut and dry answer - families and seniors. But it got me thinking, could the career I chose really be condensed to that simple response? What really was my favorite thing to photograph? I am a very thoughtful person - literally. I love to think and ponder on things for days. For a little over a week I thought. I analyzed past photoshoots and personal projects. Bringing back emotions and feelings that I felt while photographing. And then, after days of wondering it came to me, all at once, and yet, at the same time, slowly; I was drawn to photograph the magic. 

     Magic seems to be a made up figment of imagination. How can you photograph magic? Contrary to what that statement brings, I have never actually photographed a magician. So what is it?

     Magic is the golden sun illuminating the soft curls of a little girl about to be baptized by her dad. It is that fleeting moment of coming out of a twirl before your head can comprehend the dizziness that will ensure. 

     Magic can also be seeing your daughter for the first time in 18 months - After only being able to communicate with emails and phone calls on mother's day and Christmas. It's the excitement and nervous energy as you ask someone very special if they'll be with you forever.

     Magic doesn't have to happen in only life changing events - everyday creates it's own magic. Even your family and senior photo sessions. It's the pride I see on Mom and Dad's face as they watch their child be photographed. Telling the world, "This is our story." Photography allows us to freeze time. To remember. Being able to look back and remember is pretty magical in itself. Pictures are so important. I've dedicated my life to capturing them and the magic you hold dear. 

     This feeling of belonging, of succeeding and achieving is why I love to do what I do. There is a lot of trust that happens when you hire me as a photographer. You are allowing me into your life. Deciphering the magic and finding ways to capture it and tell your story. That is what I love to photograph most. Magic is different for all of us, but the passion stays the same. Magic is humanity, and through my lens I am able to tell your story.
