Poppy Flower Themed Baby Shower | Salt Lake City Family + Senior Photographer

This past Saturday I was able to throw one of my really good friends a baby sprinkle! (In case you don't know what a sprinkle is - it's when it's not your first kid. In this case, it was Brittany's 2nd, but first girl.) I just really love throwing parties and making all the details cohesive. We can go ahead and add "party planner" to my list of jobs I'd have if I wasn't a photographer. I asked Brit what "theme" she'd make her baby's nursery if she had the space to be able to give baby girl her own room. There was no hesitation, "Poppies with hints of Navy Blue." I was so excited when she told me that! Poppies are some of my favorite flowers to photograph and paint! They are just so unique, I knew we could have some fun! The first thing I did was recruit some help from my buddies. I couldn't have done this without Kenzie and Marcia! We split up jobs and it made everything so much more easier to manage. The first thing I did was design the invite and put it out on blast to our neighborhood. I watercolored a simple poppy scene and then digitized it and added text.

Once the party was officially happening I got to work making poppies! I dyed 60 coffee filters in red food coloring water and painted the center with navy blue watercolor. I needed two filters per flower, so I ended up with 30 at the end. They are so easy to make, just dip them in the dyed water, let them dry "tee-pee" style on a cookie sheet and tap on the blue watercolor while they're still wet. Once dry, crinkle them up to give them texture and twist the center. Secure with pipe cleaner and you're done! I also made smaller poppies by using crepe paper. I just bunched and twirled the paper around the pipe cleaner and secured it with tape. They turned out way cute! The only problem with using food coloring for the poppies is they dry more pink than red. It didn't bother me a ton since we were throwing pink in as the third accent color, but if it bothers you, I would just concentrate the dye water more.

Kenzie was gracious enough to offer her cute home as well as prepare the food! We decided on a crepe bar! It was perfect for brunch! Marcia got the cupcakes made from City Cake and they are the cutest! Honestly, I think they pull the whole thing together! She took the invitation to them for inspiration and walked out with the cutest poppy cupcakes I've ever seen!

This whole shower was such a success and so many friends came out to shower this Mama-to-be with love! Enjoy the rest of the details from the party!
