Three years ago for our fourth wedding anniversary Danny and I got each other two peach trees and a pear tree. The gift that year was supposed to be "fruit themed," and I try to steer my gifts along the "anniversary gift guidelines." But a basket of fruit just seemed so "meh" to celebrate four years of marriage. Since the trees were a more than I usually spend on gifts I asked Danny if he'd be cool with that being our present to each other. He was pretty enthusiastic about the idea - especially since he had no idea what to get me that was fruit themed either! Now here we are, three years later and our trees have produced so much fruit! Whenever the peaches are ready to pick, I like to make a family event out of it, since they are a symbol of our growth. Picking the peaches was a spontaneous event this year. I was driving home from a meeting and was admiring how brilliant the sunset was. So I called Danny and asked him to get Jones' shoes on so we could all pick the peaches outside. Our beautiful trees gave us so many peaches this year that we filled two apple buckets from one tree alone! I quickly realized there was no way we'd be able to eat all the fruit and called over a few neighbors to help themselves. (Thanks Kara for snapping the photo of all of us!) I loved spending time outside while Jones ran from tree to tree picking all the peaches he could reach while Fields snoozed away in his seat. It was the perfect wind down to a crazy day.
