Fall is always a busy time around here, but I never really noticed until I realized it was January and I was blogging Ayla's newborns from October! (I always blog in order of when the session takes place.) But it is such a nice treat to be able to go through and look at Ayla's pictures again. Ayla is my niece, and the first cousin my kids have on my side of the family. Her dad, Austin, is the brother just younger than me. I've loved watching him evolve into the father role and to see him care for and dote on his beautiful wife, Jenna, and their sweet baby girl has just been the best.
Whenever I photograph newborns, I like to include some elements from nature into the shoot. For Ayla's pictures, Austin and Jenna picked up a bouquet from Costco, and it worked out perfect! Jenna's maternity pictures were taken among sunflowers, so it was such a sweet and subtle reminder to have yellow and sunflower-esque blooms surrounding their sweet babe. We shot mostly on their bed and then ended the shoot by getting some lifestyle family portraits in their family room. I even made sure to get some of them on their couch. Funny story about that love seat, Austin reupholstered it! When they first got married and moved into their apartment and were looking for furniture to fill the place, Jenna and Austin were gifted a red love seat from an aunt. Austin worked on it whenever he had a spare moment. It had tons of tassels, and apparently every staple ever made. His main goal was to finish it before baby came. My siblings and I gave him a lot of flack for the amount of time he spent working on it - compared to getting a $300 couch at RC Willy, but he is just as stubborn as the rest of us and pulled through. It (surprisingly) looks really good! And when you have a piece of furniture with that much of a back story, it needs to be documented with your sweet little infant.
