I pride myself in my process. Not only does it set me apart, but it allows me to better serve my clients. I have gone through years of trial and error to get to how I do business today. It's a unique experience that I love to give my clients. I am a full service photographer. I recently asked on my Instagram if anyone was interested in seeing what goes on "behind the scenes," and was met with an overwhelming response of, "yes!" From that moment, I began formulating how I wanted to lay everything out. I decided that in order to give you all the VIP treatment, I needed to share my whole process with you!
1. The Consultation
With every email, phone call, text, or dm that comes in asking about pictures, I direct to a consultation. I want you to get to know me. So much of our personalities are lost when we communicate through a screen. I want to feed off your excitement as we talk about your dream shoot, give ideas and location suggestions and just be really involved. I love having consultations in person, we'll usually meet up at a bakery or coffee shop or wherever is easiest for you. Once there we'll talk about what you're wanting, I'll show you my samples, go over packages, and figure out what is going to be the best fit. We can get through SO MANY questions in a short meeting that would have taken days of e-mailing back and forth. My consultations are always complementary. I provide this service as a way for us to easily and quickly see if we are a good fit. If you decide to book, we will go over the contract, pay the session fee and start designing your dream family or senior photo session!
2. Location Scouting
As soon as we have a date picked and location in mind I go full Eagle Scout. Ok, not really, but I do go up to check on the "spot" multiple times. Especially when time restrictions don't allow for my ideal lighting situations. For example; this summer I had an extended family shoot that needed to be at 8 am up AF canyon. During this particular time of year, sunrise sessions up the canyon are closer to 6/6:30 am. I drove up multiple times and hiked for a good two hours trying to find the perfect spot that would work with where the sun was positioned. I was able to find an area that was heavily shaded, but still allowed for golden light to seep through the leaves. So good.
(Usually I grab a sister to come scouting with me and to have someone to test my light on)
3. The Day Before
I reserve the day before for getting all my camera gear cleaned and packed into my bag. I make sure all my batteries are charged and I am bringing the right lenses for the situation. I love my Vivitar camera backpack. It holds my camera body, battery pack, and three lenses. My go to lenses are; 50 mm 1.4, Sigma art 35mm and my discreet 28mm 2.8. Once I have everything packed and charging, I spend the rest of the day visualizing how I want the shoot to go, planning out the poses and the prompts and thinking up scenarios.
4. The Day of the Shoot
Aka- the best day ever!! I meet you at our predetermined location and we make magic. I try so hard to make sure photoshoots are fun for everyone - even you dads! Ha! Whether it's telling stupid jokes, or introducing your kids to my secret ladybug friend who lives in my lens, or any of the other tricks I have up my sleeves. My goal is to help you relax and enjoy the process. Just know that I got this. I will make sure your hair looks great, cell phones are out of pockets and my arch enemy, the hair tie around your wrist, is put away! (I usually bring snacks after too.) By the end of the session, I'm tripping over my words and look like a hot, sweaty, mess! All of this to make sure you love your pictures. Because that is important to me.
5. After the Shoot
Honestly, I drive over to the nearest Maverik and grab me a 32 oz of Dr Pepper. haha! Once I can form coherent sentences I go home, and import your beautiful pictures to my computer as well as back them up on an external hard drive. This is for extra security and peace of mind. If we haven't already, we will plan a day either a week or two later to schedule the Reveal Party. I will spend my office time editing your pictures in prep for that day.
6. Reveal Party and Ordering appointment
This may be my second favorite day! All of your pictures have been edited and are ready to be viewed!! I bring my HDMI hookup and we watch a little slideshow of all your images! I love to make it feel like a party! There is something so great about watching your whole family see all the photos, laugh and enjoy themselves. Once the slideshow is over, we then sort out the pictures into "yes," "no" and "maybe" piles. I bring my samples with me to this appointment too - it helps to remind you what you liked from the consultation. And from there we figure out what package is going to be the best fit for you. After you are done ordering, I have you pay, and then I am on my way.
7. After the Ordering appointment
In the days following the ordering appointment I sit down and design any albums that need to be made and order all of the prints, metals, canvas etc. After they've been designed and ordered, it's just a waiting game until I get my shipment back from my labs. (I usually tell clients about 3-4 weeks.) Upon complete delivery, I message you for a time that I can deliver your images. The last step is to admire your beautiful pieces of art as I package them up and prep them for delivery.
8. Delivery Day
With your precious images tucked safely away in their boxes, I head out to deliver them to you!
I spend a lot of time with my clients - we meet at least three times face to face (If not more to help with outfit suggestions!) and I love it. I love what I do. I love this service I provide. Just knowing that by printing through me and my pro labs, you are going to be able to pass these images down for generations. preserving family history is important to me and is one of the reasons I went into this field. I want my clients to have that same luxury.
I hope you enjoyed reading this, and that you were enlightened. There's a lot that goes in behind the scenes, all so that you can have beautiful images that show a little sliver of who you are.
