I'm lucky enough to live in such a beautiful state. (If only it had an Ocean like the Oregon Coast - then Utah would be perfect!) There is such a range of geography that we are so lucky to have. From mountains to deserts and all the goodness in between! In an effort to be transparent, when I first found out my family would be moving from Oregon to Utah I was not happy about it. I even went as far as to pull the, "I'm 18 and will live with my grandma until classes start at BYU-I" card. Needless to say that did not go over well with my parents. I came kicking and screaming. (My poor parents!) Not my finest hour. I think it was just a lot of change all at once. Fresh out of high school, all my friends and I were going different places and we didn't know when we'd see each other again. Me especially since I wouldn't even be able to see them on holiday breaks now that the Jones clan's home base was Sandy, Utah! I had about half of year to hang out and get to know Utah before classes started for me in January. It was lonely at first. Moving to a new state with no friends was hard, all the kids my age were already off at college while I waited for my turn to go. (thank you track system at BYU-I!) So I had a lot of family and "me" time. It was during this time that I really found a love for the beauty of Utah. I had nothing better to do when I wasn't working, so I explored. My family and I went on hikes, looked up fun places to go and started to get to know our new backyard.
My photography portfolio began to grow as I visited new places and hiked new trails. I started joining Utah photo groups on Facebook and would see all the amazing locations and want to go there. My bucket list began to grow. I had never taken the time to write down any of the places, they were more of just mental notes of "I want to shoot there someday." As it's grown, I've also been able to cross things off. In my head I have two qualifications to be able to cross something off my list; 1. That I shoot there & 2. That I have my family's picture taken there. (Usually if it's a cool enough location then I'm going to want to have some personal pictures taken there too!) I'm sure I'll keep adding to this list as I discover more places in Utah, but for now, I'm pretty pleased with the size of it and I can't wait to check off more places! If you have a place in mind that you think I would love, let me know!
