One of my favorite perks to being married with kids is planning family themed Halloween costumes! For real. haha! I think year round of possible costume ideas, in fact, I've been stewing on this idea since the day we found out Fields was a boy! We are big nerds in our house - we love all things superheroes especially. Having a baby opens up so many opportunities for small characters. Enter: Guardians of the Galaxy. I knew I wanted to make Fields into Baby Groot, and lucky for me, there was no protest there. I just had half the year to convince Jones that Rocket Raccoon was super cool. Turns out it's a pretty easy thing to do when you have a three year old who loves having nerf wars. Danny is an awesome sport and would probably prefer to wear a shirt that says, "this is my costume" or something along those lines. Ha. But really I am so lucky! My whole family is the best and lets me have my fun. I made/gathered all of the things for our costume. Lucky for me, I already owned everything for Gamora - I just had to pick up some green face paint. Danny's was pretty easy as well. I lucked out like crazy and found his leather jacket for $12 brand new at the DI, and if that wasn't enough, I found Star Lord's MASK at the DI about 3 days before the church's Halloween party for only $1!! For Baby Groot, I bought a plain, brown, knit, ribbed sleeper off of Amazon for around $3. I had to buy it back in September since it was coming from China, but hey! It works. For the hat, I bought a beanie and sewed pieces of felt to it to create Groot's head and eyes. Done. Rocket Raccoon's costume was the biggest feat. I found a pair of size 7/8 orange cargo pants at the DI and from there, cut off some of the pant legs, below the pocket and took them in on the crotch and legs to make them fit Jones better. I used the scraps to cut out and aplique them to a black shirt and then made sleeves and legs out of fur that I got at Joann's. I bought Jones' ears and tail on Amazon. I did all of our makeup and made my family do a quick 15 minute photoshoot before our Halloween party and ended up with these awesome pictures - thanks to my sisters (Julie and Maddy) who came to be a human tripod and coat rack/baby looker.
