The Addams Family | Halloween Styled Shoot | Whitney Beth Photography

In the photo world, "styled shoots" are organized as a way to fill your portfolio with the kind of pictures you want to take, express yourself creatively and work with other vendors. I'd say about 85% of the time a stylized shoot is centered around a bride and groom. Which is fine if you're a wedding photographer, I, however, am not. This year I really made sure to exhibit some self care and do things in my business that I wanted and would make me happy. I decided that I could do stylized shoots too - they would just involve a lot more [little] people.

Back in August while I was content planning I got this fun idea; what if the Addams Family had hired a photographer? What kind of shots would Morticia Addams request of their photographer? What would their location look like? All the questions were answered as I started forming and designing the shoot. It would not have been nearly as successful were it not for my talented friend and make up artist; Sarah Hicken and my equally as talented and most enthused Halloween lover, Rachel Crane and her family. Everything went according to plan perfectly. We shot at the wetlands park by my place. I usually stay to the north side of the park where it is green and lush, but the south side with it's muted tones and tall trees were perfect for the location. Not to mention, some of the neighborhood kids have been busy at work constructing the coolest fort out of logs and sticks. The contrasting, spiraling shapes that the branches make are the perfect amount of character fit for the Addams Family. I loved strutting around the place with my model family following directions. Gabby, aka Wednesday, was perfectly in character the entire time. In fact, everyone did so well of acting their part that I started calling them their character's names a few times! This shoot was just the creative kickstart I needed in prep for a very busy fall season ahead of me. I loved it so much! Thanks again to the Cranes and Sarah for helping all my Addams Family photoshoot dreams come true!
