Mitch + Julie's Engagements | Salt Lake City Family + Senior Photographer

Getting engaged at the start of the year is always tricky when it comes to planning your engagement pictures. Usually everything is still pretty dead from winter - and when you're having a quick engagement to begin with, location ideas can be tricky to come up with. Luckily, the canyons never really get the memo that it spring is on it's way until like May! I took Julie and Mitch up Big Cottonwood Canyon to Jordan Pines. With all the snow the canyons had gotten recently, we needed someplace that would be easy to get to and plowed! And good thing we chose that location because the snow banks were taller than we were! Even if we had wanted to pull over and bush wack it, we wouldn't have been able to - not to mention, probably not the safest idea!

Leaving the valley, we were pretty nervous starting out since it was a blizzard! Fearing for the worst, we made our way closer to the canyon. Thankfully we were pleasantly surprised to find that the snow falling up Big Cottonwood was just a bunch of flurries the higher we went! We arrived at Jordan Pines to find that the flurries continued, but they were small flakes. (Perfect for photoshoots!) Getting to the spots I wanted to shoot at proved to be the most difficult, as we had to scale icy snow banks taller than we were! The environment made for some magical pictures, especially with all the snow flurrying around us. As our photoshoot neared the end, the snow picked up and started coming down at a more rapid pace. Poor Julie and Mitch had to stop every now and then to brush the icicles forming in their hair! They were such troopers and made the whole shoot so much fun!
