Now that it's official I can finally share Robert and Olivia's engagements! Because he's my brother and never does things "by the book" I ended up taking Robert and Olivia's engagement pictures before they were actually engaged. (You can read about their proposal story I blogged last week, here.) Due to the fact that Robert and Olivia both live in Rexburg and we only see them about once every other month, our window to have these photos taken was pretty small. Robert and Olivia already knew they wanted to tie the knot, and with Olivia leaving for home in WA at the end of the semester, these two wanted to hash out as much planning stuff while together as they could. (Robert also wanted to have the ring when he proposed and it was in the process of being designed/made.) All these things added up to engagement photos before the engagement. Which I was fine with, even if it meant waiting a month to share them with everyone!
Robert and Olivia are cut from the same, mountain loving, naturing exploring PNW cloth. It only made sense to have their pictures taken at such a picturesque location such as Jordan Pines, up Big Cottonwood Canyon. When we arrived at the parking lot, soft, snow flakes floated gracefully to the ground. I was more excited than they were about the snow (especially as I bundled up in my snow coat while they started removing theirs) for the sole purpose of beautiful snow bokeh! We lucked out big time in that it was a dry snow and didn't melt the second it landed on us. We did run into some problems however, when it came time to trail blaze. It was like playing Russian Roulette with the snow! You'd be walking just fine one second, and the next you were knee deep in a snow bank! Olivia is the biggest trooper ever and braved the elements in a skirt!
I am convinced that I am 100% biased since this is my little bro and future little sis in law, but their pictures turned out STUNNING. Fun fact; Olivia teaches dance up at BYU-I. Knowing that, I had to make them do some "dance poses" and dips. Robert got a mini lesson right there on the mountain. Once we were done and were trekking back to the car we started chatting. At one point, Robert said, "I can't feel my face" - without any planning or prompting, Olivia and I, in unison, started singing, "I can't feel my face when I'm with you..." As we laughed at the coincidence I jokingly told Robert, "Congrats on marrying your sister!" Haha! I think Olivia will fit in juuuust fine.
