The End of Maternity Leave | Salt Lake City Family + Senior Photographer

June 24, 2019  •  Leave a Comment

I’m back! Did you miss me? Thanks to scheduling my posts, it was like I never left, but  come July 1st, my maternity leave is officially over. That means that I’ll be starting to take on shoots and consultations again! However, since Fields is still such a little guy, my availability will be limited. I will only be taking a few clients a month until the end of the year.

It’s been so nice to take a break from the business side of things and enjoy family time, but man oh man, did I miss shooting. So much so, that towards the end of my leave I snuck in my cousin’s senior pictures as well as a styled family shoot in the poppies that I had been dreaming up! If anything, my leave has just reaffirmed my love for my craft. I’ve still got that spark of excitement and joy and can dub photography as “self care.” How awesome is it that I get to feel this way about my job!?

One of the hardest parts about coming off of maternity leave has got to be leaving the kids for an hour or two while I shoot or meet with clients. I always tell myself to get there 15-20 minutes early whenever I’m meeting a client, and thanks to mom guilt, I’m lucky to make it there ten minutes early. When it’s time for me to leave the kids get cuter and more snugglely and need me more, and I have to pry myself away. My commute is a stress riddled battle against the clock and all the red lights I’m hitting. But once I’m there and have transitioned to out of “mom mode,” and into photographer, all is well. I do the shoot and leave with my creative juices recharged and ready to be a better mom. Hats off to you full time working moms. It’s a tough gig. Working allows me to get out of the house, have conversations with adults, and thanks to being self employed, I get to work as much or as little as I want. So here’s to the upcoming family picture season, I’m ready for you. I can’t wait to capture all the beautiful families in Utah’s gorgeous scenery.
