Dog Friendly Locations in Utah | Whitney Beth Photography

When I moved to Utah from Oregon one of the weirdest things to me was to see "no dogs allowed" signs up most of the canyons. (Honestly it still is weird to me, and I don't get it - I mean, I get that it's a water shed, but what about the wild animals that live up there??) Anyways, being a dog owner and having my pups be part of the family, I became very "in the know" of which canyons do and do not allow dogs. I mean I want family pictures with them every so often too! To save you the trouble of entering the mouth of the canyon only to see the dreaded "no dogs" sign, I made a list of a few places in the Salt Lake Valley that allow dogs!

1. Memory Grove - Salt Lake City. This park is great because it also doubles as a dog park and there is an off leash area

2. City Creek Trail - Salt Lake City. Not to be confused with the mall, the trail is actually above Memory Grove Park and it goes all the way up to the canyon. There are picnic places along the way.

3. Tanner Park - 2660 Heritage Way, Salt Lake City. This is also an off leash dog park. lots of trees, shade and a creek that runs through it.

4. Neff's Canyon - Just up from 3300 S. Also a dog park. Plenty of trails to roam and a beautiful display of color in the fall

5. Hidden Valley Park - on Wasatch in Sandy. Plenty of trails and you can get to a pretty decent height before it turns into a watershed and dogs are no longer allowed.

6. Dimple Dell - Sandy, also called, "the Gully." Good mix of "country" vibe and open meadow

7. Potato Hill - Draper. Good outlook over the valley, views of the Draper lds temple, lots of trails with oak trees.

8. American Fork Canyon - American Fork. Beautiful, tall pine trees, aspens, a lake and gorgeous mountain views.
