I’m sure you’ve seen all the Pinterest boards and images of color grouping and outfit ideas that look great together. These are great places to start to get ideas for your photoshoot attire. But a lot of the time the “why” isn’t included. I am all for dressing like yourself and personality for pictures, but if you’re looking to make things a little easier for your photographer here’s the one thing you should avoid;

Neons and extremely bright/ loud colors

And it’s not just because the 80’s are 40 years ago (weird, I know) but because of color casts.

Now, the average person might not know what a color cast is - which is why we have this post!

A color cast is what happens if you mix an extreme color with light. Think of it like a mirror casting a light reflextion. When the sun hits your outfit, it bounces light off of your shirt or whatever you are wearing, onto your face and skin. Now you’ve got a weird color spot that is splotchy. It’s not the end of the world - it can be toned down, but it’ll make your photographer have to add an extra (labor intensive) step to every. single. image.  I took a few quick images of my boys to help demonstrate what color casts can look like.

But hey, if it’s your senior pictures and you want to rock that hot pink, I say go for it! Pictures should be about expressing you and your personality. This post is just to bring awareness to what the colors we pick can do for our images.
