Thanksgiving is nearing and I am so excited to celebrate it with family! Now that the boys are getting older (along with my nieces and nephews) I like to try an incorporate photo related, simple things into our traditions - especially Thanksgiving to help teach and show them all the things we have to be thankful for. And hey, if it keeps them busy for a few minutes while I help prepare food, even better!
I was thinking the other day of ways to incorporate printing pictures into the holiday when I randomly remembered when I was a kid we used to turn our pictures into coloring book pages. However, It was always a hassle and the “coloring page” you were left with was hardly anything to get excited about. But that was a long time ago and technology has come a long way since then. I decided to google it to see if the website was still up and running (with improvements.)
Welcome to 2021, where there is an app for everything! (Duh) Upon google searching I came across several apps that do just that. I downloaded a few that looked promising and landed on my favorite one; Colorscape. It looks like this:
I flipped through my camera roll with my boys and let them pick out some pictures that I had taken of things and moments that they were thankful for. Such as going to the Aquarium, loosing a tooth, playing with brothers, etc. By the time we had gone through this year, we had quite the list of Thankful moments to color.
The app is extremely user friendly, you simply upload your image and choose between a few different line renderings. (The free one gives you two options, but if you pay the $6.99 it gives you way more to choose from) I found that photos with simple backgrounds and even light work the best. Once you’ve uploaded and adjusted your photo for the coloring page you can either save it to your camera roll, share it or print it right from the app. I printed mine to see how they look and prep for Thanksgiving.
They turned out so cool! My plan is to print a bunch for all the kids in the family to color while the adults get things set up and cooked for Thanksgiving. I think having the littles color their photos will bring up the memories of that day and remind them of all the ways they are blessed. I know my boys are already fans - when I was prepping for this post they begged me to give them a few sheets early to “test it out” (aka Jones is already too smart for his own good lol) But it worked and they happily entertained themselves while coloring pictures from the year. I hope this can bring some love and happiness to your home on Thanksgiving. (I even got in on the fun and found it very relaxing!) Let me know if you end up doing it!
