Downtown Salt Lake City | Nate + Nicole | Whitney Beth Photography

Nate messaged me awhile ago, wanting to get some pictures done for his girlfriend, Nicole's birthday. This session was extra fun since my husband, Danny, grew up around the corner from Nate. They've been friends their whole lives. In fact, Nate was the best man at our wedding. Normally I go to shoots without assistants, but this time I had Danny tag along so that we could go out to eat on a double date afterwards. It was so fun! When asking about what feel or look they wanted for their pictures, Nate told me that Nicole really liked architecture and would like to incorporate it into the scenery. I suggested the SLC library and the surrounding block of Washington Square Park, and the Exchange Place. I'd say we did a pretty good job of meshing my love of green with their request of cool architecture. We started off at the library and since the rooftop was closed off, made our way through Washington Square Park and towards the Exchange Place. Shows you what a year of being shut down and not venturing around town will do to you - neither of us knew that the exchange place was getting a facelift and had scaffolding all over it! But we made it work and chased the light all over the streets. Our session was relatively fast - minus the walking (ha) I looooove photographing families, but there's something to be said about the ease, and lack of weird noises I have to make to get kids to look at the camera that comes with photographing a grown, adult, couple that is so nice, almost relaxing. It's good to change up my pace every now and then. I had so much fun with Nate and Nicole and I know Danny would agree too. After the shoot we spent nearly two hours together at dinner where Nicole and I learned of our common ground of love of dogs and picking partners who claimed they "didn't like dogs" and whom now, coincidentally, love dogs. After the year everyone had last year, I think we can all agree that getting out and reconnecting with old friends is good for the soul. Enjoy my favorites from the shoot.
