4 Accessories to Elevate Your Photoshoot | Whitney Beth Photography

Whenever I want my photoshoots to have a little more "umpf" to them I like to add accessories to elevate them. Sometimes it can be confusing to know how much to add before you start looking like your kid self going through your mom's closet putting everything you can find on! I like to keep things simple but still add that little extra something that is going to make it that much more of a "wow" factor. My four favorite things to add to shoots are;

1. Dogs (or pets for that matter)

They are part of the family, and although it can be tough finding a location that allows them/makes it easy for you to bring them it is so worth it. Not only do you document a family member, but your pets bring out real emotion and laughter and all the fun things that come with having a furry family member. It's also invaluable to have pictures of our pets since they don't last forever. And don't worry, they don't need to be in every shot - if you tell me you want to bring your dog or your cat, not only will I quickly agree, but I'll bring treats and usually a sibling-turned-assistant to hold the leash and love on them while they aren't needed.

2. Hats

I can just hear my sister telling me how stupid she looks in hats! (ha!) But I loooove throwing on a felt or wide brimmed hat for a session. It not only helps add to the amount of looks you can do (on or off) but gives an extra layer of depth and dimension and draw attention to your face without taking away or subtracting from the scene.

3. Meaningful jewelry

I'm pretty minimalist when it comes to what jewelry I wear/own, but if I own it, about 85% of the time it has sentiment behind it. For example, I wear a combo of necklaces every day - one that has a "B" on it for Banks - my son who passed away, and my "Mama Bird" necklace. With my last name being, Robbins, I've taken to calling my babies, while pregnant, "little bird." This necklace helps me hold all my kids close - both the ones on earth and the ones in Heaven. Having these and other pieces like it, peak through while getting my pictures taken helps me have my whole family with me and makes them that much more special.

4. Floral/Greenery

I was so happy when flower crowns came in style - I'm a pretty big garden/floral nerd and I loved seeing and using them in my shoots. I know they aren't necessarily trendy anymore, but I still stand by my love of them and adding floral and greenery pieces in whenever I can! And it doesn't always have to be in crown or bouquet form. I once had an extended family shoot bring a wreath and it was so perfect for the location/season/session! Having something like this or even a flower in your daughter's hair adds a that little extra bit of depth and simplicity to really add that extra "pow!" to your photos
