I freaking love Halloween. It is filled with so much fun and candy and COSTUMES! Costumes, especially coordinating ones, are my favorite part of Halloween! I love being able to turn my vision into a reality. I'm a big fan of homemade costumes and scouring the local thrift stores to find just the right elements needed to construct my creations. Some years are more elaborate than others. Some years I buy half the stuff because it's easier and a time saver. Regardless, I love it. Little known fact about me; I have an entire closet dedicated to my costumes and dresses that I've stalked up on over the years. After a few moves I had to do a few purges and only keep the "necessities" - but that just means that they are all so good. I'm waiting until Halloween to unveil our costume this year. So, to tied you over, I thought I'd do a Costume Year Review.
Up first;
2011
Pirates with my BFF Amanda. Everything was thrifted or borrowed from my little brothers toy box.
(You've already seen this if you read the story of how Danny and I met.)
2012
Han Solo and Princess Leia in the Ewok Village
Our first Halloween as a married couple. I made this entire Costume with contents from the DI. My dress is made up of a terrible 90's dress and men's white button up. I couldn't find pictures of the details, but I embroidered all the seams to give it more detail. Danny is wearing a women's suede jacket that I deconstructed into a vest. I found a v neck beige shirt that I altered for him and he is wearing women's stretchy skinny jeans. ha. I also made his holster out of belts. Since we were in Disneyland for Mickey's Scary Halloween party we couldn't bring his blaster! This combo is one of my favorites I've made.
2013
This one is kinda lame. ha. Introducing a Rite Aid Pharmacist and a Dinosaur. In 2013 Danny had to work so when I went to pick him up after his shift I wore my Dino costume/footies that I got at the Children's place on clearance for like 5 bucks.
2014
Danny had to work again in Halloween of 2014. After last year's lame excuse for a costume, I gave the car to Danny and hitched a ride up to my Mom's to trick or treat with them. Danny had gotten me a Jedi cloak earlier that year, all I had to do was hem it, put on my boots, leggings and I found a men's kaki shirt at the DI that I deconstructed and distressed into a Jedi uniform.
2015
Our last Halloween Kidless! (You can see my 18 ish week baby bump) We went as Indiana Jones and Marion Ravenwood.
I found Danny's pants and shirt at the DI (talk about a score! a real safari shirt!) and Danny is wearing my uncle's leather jacket from high school along with my Dad's hat from Australia. I found my jeanie pants on amazon and my shirt at the DI. I used my sewing machine to embroider the designs down the front. I'm also wearing a scarf as a wrap belt. (When I bought the shirt, I wasn't as pregnant and it was a lot more flowy! haha) Everyone knew who Danny was, but like 2 people guessed my costume.
Also in 2015 I went as a Roy Lichtenstein painting for our church's Halloween party since Danny went to a guys night with his brothers that they had been planning for weeks. No one knew who I was either. ha. But all my art history buddies got a kick out of it! I already owned the dress (thank you stash) and jewelry from my grandma.
2016
So I may have reused our costumes from 2012 for the sake of JONES BEING A BABY EWOK!
I bought him a teddy bear suit from a thrift store and then found a plain orange shirt to cut up for the head piece. It stayed on wonderfully thanks to the ear holes. I used some leather to add the details around the face and done! Cutest baby ewok in all the land!
2017
Welcome, to Jurassic Park.
Danny worked again this year, so I went as the 90's version Jurassic Park chick along with my three dinosaurs. (The first picture of me and Jones was when I couldn't find the dino suit I had bought earlier that year - and found a different one in the closet) My outfit is entirely thanks to the DI (minus my shoes) I got Jones' dino outfits at a garage sale that summer and found the dog costumes at Michaels. Let me tell you, it is so hard to photograph an 18 month old and two dogs - all of which don't want to be in costume!
And there you have it! all our costumes from 2011 on! Any guesses what this years' costume will be?
