I'm blessed to be able to be my own boss and work from home. Which is so wonderful while my babies are still little and need a lot of attention. I learned quickly once Jones came along that I needed a space of my own. Hauling out the laptop to the couch or bed wasn't going to cut it anymore. I needed a place to keep all my gear, papers, work, etc, separate from "mom life" so that I could transition to "work mode." In our house we have three bedrooms upstairs; the master and two kid rooms. When it was just Jones I had one room for him and the other was my office. I knew that whenever we decided to expand our family that the office would have to move to make way for a chubby baby. Since I knew that room was only a temp solution I didn't go "all out" with making it my own. It was just my office furniture, computer and gear. Now that the room is occupied I moved my office to the basement. In doing so we lost out on our only guest bedroom. I'd say it was 100 percent worth it. Having my own office down stairs next to the play room is a dream. Since I knew I'd be here for the long haul (and because it'd be a long time before any kids slept in the basement) I went all out in making it my "home away from home" ... in my home. I filled it full of product samples of my clients. My camera collection has a home on my shelves and I don't have to go searching for my tripod or a certain camera bag. It's all here. Aside from being super organized, I'm able to work. I have that distinction of walking across the threshold that this is my space and my area to work. I have a place to meet with clients if need be and I don't have to worry about finding a space. I also love being able to have my kids so close. Jones usually plays in the playroom or brings his toys in and plays at my feet or the coffee table and Fields is either nursing, sleeping in my ring sling or in his bouncer next to me. It's not a perfect system and I'm constantly picking up legos from under my desk, but it works for us and this stage of life we are in. Having this pretty space motivates me to work and get things done.
