Eight Years. This anniversary feels like a big one. Eight whole years of doing life together. It feels like we just got married, and at the same time, I can't remember life without Danny in it. Since this year's anniversary just happened to fall on a time in our lives where we weren't pregnant, nor had a newborn, Danny and I decided to take a little getaway together. Originally we were planning on staying at the Little America in SLC, but with Covid and Salt Lake still being Orange, we went with plan B. Danny found this cute little venue/bed and breakfast in American Fork called, Fifth Avenue. It worked out beautifully that it was near a Coldstone, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Fiiz and only 20 minutes from Provo Canyon. We decided to celebrate early this year since our anniversary was on a Tuesday this year. But first we wanted to spend a bit of time with family since Robert and Olivia were headed back to WA soon.
We met up with family at Spanish Oaks Res on thursday, the 21st - our favorite fishing spot. Everyone loves it there, because not only do you catch fish every time we go, but there is also a sandy beach area with shallow water for the kids to play in. Win-win! We hung out until noon and then made the swap. We put the boys' carseats and suitcase in my parents' van and said, "see you on Saturday!" We went and got drinks and snacks while we waited until we could check in and when it was time for dinner we found that the Texas Roadhouse was open for dine in seating.
The next day we were greeted with breakfast outside our door - strawberry, nutella crepes, eggs and bacon. Prior to our trip the only planning we did was book the bed and breakfast. Having no itinerary to follow was so refreshing. We took our time getting ready for they day and decided that it would be fun to go get watercolor supplies and explore Squaw Peak - since neither of us had hiked there. We drove to the top and picked a random trail and off we went. I snapped pictures of wildflowers along the way and we found a beautiful meadow with tons of forget me nots! We even saw a bunny! Eventually we made our way to a clearing near the lookout point that was surrounded in sunflowers. We plopped our chairs down and painted away. We were up on that mountain for just over three hours! It was amazing and peaceful and I can't remember the last time I had all that time to do whatever I wanted! It started getting chilly so we left and went to eat sushi for dinner. Good thing too, because it started storming so bad that the sign above the sushi place we were at FELL OFF the building. It was so cold and windy in the valley that we could feel the car being pulled along with the wind as we drove. We stopped for ice cream at the Cold Stone by our B&B and then tucked in for the night and stayed up way too late watching Impractical Jokesters.
When morning came we ate our crepes, packed up and checked out. It was Banks' birthday and we had to run around and pick up balloons and flowers for his grave. Once we had finished all our errands we headed over to my moms to get the kids! I can't tell who was more excited, me, or my dogs, Indy and Scout that had also been staying at my folks house! I was greeted with all the jumpy, spazzy, licks from the dogs and a quick hug from Jones followed by, "I don't want to go home!" Fields made up for his brother's lack of enthusiasm by refusing to let me out of his sight for the rest of the day. My getaway with Danny was so perfect and just what we needed, but I am so happy to be back home with the kids!
